Claire Nakazawa
Bio

Claire paints abstract landscapes and dreamscapes inspired by natural and urban environments. Working spontaneously in acrylic on canvas, she combines controlled and precise mark making with a loose approach, exploring balance, perspective and colour.

Claire moved to Sydney, after growing up in the Blue Mountains to study painting at the New South Wales College of Fine Art and completed her degree in 2007. She continues to challenge and broaden her practice, painting for solo and group exhibitions, murals, creating digital media, writing music and performing with Haiku Hands.

She has exhibited around Australia in a variety of successful shows, including sold out debut show in 2009, another in 2012 and most recently at Day Fine Art Gallery, along with group shows in Sydney Melbourne and Brisbane. She's received several grants, residencies and awards such as the Australian Council for the Arts Arts Start Grant, Leichhardt City Council Mural Art Award, The Blue Mountains Street Art Mayors Award and the Fraser Studios residency program.

Under the alias Chaos Emerald, Claire featured on the single 'Speak of the Devil' by Hermitude which leads her to performing nationally and internationally at festivals such as Woodford Folk Festival, Park Life, Pyramid Rock Festival, Splore Festival New Zealand, Groove in the Moo, Fusion Festival Berlin, CMJ New York, Lightning in a Bottle LA, Wakarusa Arkansas USA, Governors Ball NYC, The AIR Awards and many more. Claire also performs as a vocalist and dancer in Urthboy's live show. In 2017 she launched Haiku Hands, a collaborative music project that is gaining international attention and furthering creative endeavours.

"There are many facets to Claire's creativity, as a painter, her works combine colours and composition that distill beautiful elements of everyday life that are often taken for granted.

As a performer she has graced stages all over the world as a vocalist, dancer and live artist.

Claire's current body of work invites the viewer to open their minds to the power of interpretation and the mesmerizing effect of colour ".
